Hydeia Broadbent has passed away. Many people remember her from her Oprah interview where she discussed living with HIV as a child. Hydeia was born with the virus. At 10 months old she was adopted and little was known about her biological parents.
She was diagnosed at age 3 after her birth mother and younger sibling tested positive at a hospital that alerted her adoptive parents. Hydeia was not expected to live beyond age 5. Then, at age 5 she developed AIDS. In the 1996 she appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show sis using her life. Magic Johnson said that she helped to change his life with her journey.
She worked as an HIV/AIDS activist and carried that on until her death on February 20, 2024. She was 39 years old. We are sending love and light to her family, friends and community as she rocked the lives of many.
